So, you want to watch the World Cup 2022 in person but don’t know where to start? At this point, you might be wondering how much it will cost, from transportation to accommodation. After all, you don’t want to miss the first World Cup that will be held in the Middle East.

Fret not, my fiend, because we got you covered. We will break down the expenses that are required in a World Cup trip, and also some that you might encounter along the way.

This is why it is wise to plan ahead, so that your trip would be enjoyable and convenient.

Budget

First things first, it is important that you need to figure out early on the amount you need to spend for your World Cup trip in Qatar.

For a single person on a two-week vacation, a $3,000 to $4,000 USD total budget is enough to cover all your expenses. Depending on your preferences and lifestyle, you can increase this budget if you want.

If you’re on a tight budget, look for cheap or discounted flights available online, there are plenty of them. Also, when it comes to accommodation, you can also have a free-lodging if you know a friend or host from the host country of the World Cup.

You may contact a compatriot residing in that location and ask for a discounted price for accommodation.

For an avid World Cup fan and a globetrotter, I save $100 every month to a bank every four years so that I could have my budget planned early.

International Travel

The question is, how are you going to get from point A to Point B? How are you going from the city where you live to the host nation? Ask yourself if you can utilize points or rewards, or do you need to buy the flight at full price?

In all of my four World Cup travels, I’ve used airline points. For international travel, the total price of my flights ranged from $900 to $1500 per person.

Local Travel

Once you reach your host nation, what are the ways to go from place to place and how much do they cost?

In Germany, I bought a Eurorail pass, rode in taxis and journeyed through subways. In Brazil, I used domestic flights because the country is huge. I also rode the metro, taxis and buses.

For the Qatar World Cup, the government has spent £120 billion in preparations for hosting the sporting event. They said that this edition will be the most convenient Cup ever, with the stadiums closer to each other, making traveling around a lot easier.

Game Tickets

The price for World Cup match tickets have increased from edition to edition. For category one tickets, the price is $210 to $220. Meanwhile, the category two tickets remain the same with $165. The application for the World Cup 2022 ticket is now open online.

Lodging

Qatar has spent a lot for hosting preparations, aside from the required stadiums, they also built a modern and sustainable city called Lusail.

At least 60,000 rooms will be available from several hotels around Lusail for the World Cup attendees. Lodging costs depend on your preferences but it is advisable to book at least three to four months before you leave.

Miscellaneous

If you want to visit other places in between the matches, the cost is depending on your preferences. For food, souvenirs and entertainment, it varies from place to place.

In Lusail, you can enjoy museum tours, gyms, gardens, restaurants, tennis courts, and other amenities around the city.

Final Words

The 2022 World Cup is expected to be a huge global event, so watching it in person could be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Take note that you should consider following the laws in the host country and the pandemic protocols to avoid getting in trouble.
